Information
First and foremost, all Pomeranians that visit here and live here are pets…..spoiled companions. All Pomeranians deserve to be well taken care of, well socialized, played with and handled daily. All of my dogs live in my house with us. Several sleep on the bed each night.

Most Pomeranians in the world should NOT be bred. The ONLY reason anyone should breed Pomeranians (or any breed) is to better that breed for the future. There is a “Standard” for each breed that explains what the breed is supposed to look like and be built like. The Pomeranian Standard was written by the American Pomeranian Club and approved by the American Kennel Club (AKC). These are both National organizations.

Most serious “show breeders” are trying to breed to better the breed. They are away several weekends each month exhibiting their breeding stock against other breeders’ breeding stock to win championship points. Once a dog wins fifteen championship points (including two major wins) it will be recorded as an AKC Champion of Record. (CH)

If you are shopping for a dog and someone has pets for sale and they do not show their dogs and/or there are not champions in the first two generations of the puppies’ pedigree, ask yourself why the parents were bred at all. Responsible breeders will often have waiting lists for their puppies and will often ask you lots of nosy questions trying to find the best home for their puppies and matching the best puppy to your family from information you tell them. Responsible breeders care that you are happy with the puppy and that the puppy is happy with you. Responsible breeders do NOT breed to make a profit. Most ‘show breeders’ actually lose thousands of dollars every year while trying to improve the quality of the dogs that they keep. Most responsible breeders breed to keep something from each litter, not to sell puppies. Puppies that are available as pets are usually too big, too small, the wrong sex or just don’t meet the AKC Standard enough for the breeder to keep them for themselves. That is why a puppy should be for sale! Responsible breeders will not likely know if a puppy will be available until it is over six weeks of age and sometimes much older if they are planning on keeping it and later change their mind. ANY pom breeder who is willing to let you take a pom puppy home before ten weeks of age is not looking out for the best interest of the puppy or for you as the buyer. Pom puppies are small and are not ready to leave their moms and their breeder until they are at least 10 weeks old. They learn discipline and good behaviors from their mom. Depriving them of this time is not a good thing.
